Spring Flowers

Oh how I love the Spring, It’s when you know winter is finally over and there’s a promise in the air of new and exciting things to come.  I think you will find most florists enjoy any change in season as we get to flood our workspaces with new varieties of flowers.  If you have read my post (Exploration of scent) you will know that at Lily & May we love scented flowers, well Spring has a mass of gorgeous scented flowers, but this isn’t the only reason we look forward to this time of year, it’s the texture and colours that become available too.

Ranunculus, these look similar to peonies but much smaller and are available in a large selection of colours.  They work beautifully alongside other Spring flowers in both bouquets and venue décor.

If you want a blue flower, then Muscari is a must, this small and dainty flower is related to the Hyacinth (another fabulous spring flower)  and works really well alongside other blooms in a buttonhole.

It is not possible to talk about Spring without the mention of Tulips and Daffodils (Narcissi).  Tulips are available in so many different colours, for this reason it’s likely there will be a variety to suit your colour scheme. These are a great choice for tables and venue decoration and look gorgeous on their own in a vase.

We have only mentioned some of our favourite Spring flowers, if you have chosen this time of year for your wedding there are plenty more blooms available .  You may want to also consider Hellebore,  Viburnum Opulus (Guelder Rose) Hyacinth and Cherry Blossom.
